Sanctuary!!! Sanctuary!!
Back in the day in Medieval Europe, churches would provide sanctuary to criminals, people seeking asylum, or political enemies of the ruling class. Theoretically the state was supposed to recognize this and not profane God's holy ground by shedding blood. Of course there were many kings, queens, and other nobles who didn't care one bit about this protection, just ask Thomas Becket. Still, for at least some people, sanctuary could be a very real thing. So I suppose, as deer hunting season began in Michigan, a buck decided to see if the old sanctuary protections still applied.
